Jane Brearley

Jane Brearley graduated in 1982 with a degree in Art Education from Middlesex University and taught Art and Textiles for most of her professional life. During her teaching career, she also completed a degree in 3D Applied Arts from Hertfordshire University.

Throughout her artistic practice, Jane is drawn to the natural world and her emotional response to its colours, shapes and patterns. She creates semi-abstract and ambiguous forms that provoke curiosity and a sense of wonder.

She is also inspired by traces of human life in forgotten and abandoned places. Through a combination of mark-making, painting, stitching, collage and mono-printing, she aims to evoke feelings of fragility and the impermanence of human presence within the natural habitat, inviting the viewer to connect with familiar sentiments.
